Nice post Oregano.... that board as a cyber family though ? Are you nuts?

It's more of a meeting place, with familiar faces, more like a cafe. If it were a family everybody would be keeping in touch with peoples away from there, but not all do that, hence 3/4 of the board had no idea were the new board was located! am I right or am I right?

Some intelligent folk try to keep virtuality and reality separate.

This is what and many many other do::

I use Comcast and AOL general chat rooms okay? so, they are like different drop in, meeting places too. I am also in a few forums and there are some nice posters there too. Forums are different though as you join them because you have something in common with the Forum "family", so you are kind of bonded before you join. That give you the feel good factor even before you type your first word.

I use facebook for family. MySpace for virtual buddy's, Twitter recently for work colleagues and cyber folk. Can you see? Virtual and reality separate! Now as you all know, I blog my thoughts here on blogger and on other blog sites. This is my diary. Except it's public and not like my REAL LIFE journal, that's in my pandoras' box on my dresser at home.
It could be Oregano, like you suggest that some there do actually depend on that message board and see it as part of their life?? ? ? Ya! OMG that's' it. How sad is that !

Maybe that's why there are so many arguments, people too close to one another, not treating it as just a message board, trying to run it as a family, watching out for intruders .

When an unfamiliar face/name appears and is outspoken or has a different view than the "family",an argument occurs...that's of course expected, it is a just a message board after all.

But what really happens? If you study you will see how this virtual family closes ranks when one of the board hierarchy yells troll or clone toward the stranger and starts dropping little "Hints" to the rest of the "family", that in turn causes them to doubt the intruder and then what? They get lambasted. Called names and generally teased badly.

Some tender soul who may hate bullies will perhaps stand up for the intruder, oh boy! bad move, they are seen as a traitor by the hierarchy and turned upon, and so yet again another argument ensues--- It's ok, you can blame the trolls for that too. LOL

When someone who wants to speak up but does not want to reveal their true identity for fear of reprisals from the finger pointing crew will use another screen name/mask, scream at the family and protest in all manner of ways, again it's singled out, ignore the troll, in other words, " board, don't listen to the truth these trolls are spouting out".

It's manipulation these guys use. They are subtly controlling who you must see as good or bad. There are arguments because of possessiveness, there are arguments because of family members interfering in other members disagreements, there are arguments because of narcissistic posters , control freaks, some with delusions of grandeur and of course arguments because some just love a good vent now and again.

So no, boards are not a family , they are public message boards , somewhere where people go to see what other people are up to. Catch up with gossip.

and you know what? You are not in charge.
If you want rid of the Trolls. Your board will be empty, for you have all trolled. You have all baited and flamed. I suggest you stop attacking those you don't like or those whom you don't know. Stop blaming those you are not on friendly terms with for causing the arguments you all take part in and love. Most importantly STOP trying to turn a message board into a homely , friendly moderated forum that just contains your friends, a place where people don't argue and troll. It's not your home, you are not Mommy. YOU ARE NOT IN CHARGE!
